The Reporter/Times Herald Sports Roundup (April 30): Deery’s home run gives Souderton baseball a comeback win over CB South (2024)

Souderton 5, Central Bucks South 3 >> Tyler Deery broke a 3-3 tie with a two-run home run as Souderton scored all five of its runs in the bottom of the sixth to rally for its third win in a row Tuesday.

Connor Klock’s bases-loaded RBI sacrifice fly cut Central Bucks South’s lead to 3-1 with an error on the next-at bat allowing two runs in to pull the Indians (6-8, 5-6 SOL Colonial) even. Deery followed with his homer to left.

Jake Yang’s solo home run in the top of the first and Colin Flynn’s two-RBI double in the fifth put South (5-7, 5-7 SOL Colonial) up 3-0. Yang went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored while Brett Barrett was 2-for-4 with a run scored.

North Penn 8, Pennridge 3 >> Ben Farley finished 2-for-4 with five RBIs – hitting a two-run double in the top of the third then a bases-clearing triple in the sixth – as North Penn erased an early 3-0 deficit to earn its third consecutive victory.

Chase Jones was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for the Knights (9-5, 7-5 SOL Colonial) while Jeremiah Criger went 2-for-3 with three runs scored.

Noah Keating’s RBI single in the bottom of the first and Kyle Watson’s two-run home run in the second had Pennridge up 3-0. North Penn, however, took lead with a four-run third, added a run in the fourth then plated three in the sixth.

Watson was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored while Keating went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Rams (7-5, 4-5 SOL Colonial)

Plymouth Whitemarsh 3, Abington 1 >> Colin Brady struck out eight in pitching a complete-game as Plymouth Whitemarsh extended its win streak to 12.

Brady allowed a run – earned – on four hits and two walks while Chase Olszyk was 2-for-4 with a double for the Colonials. Chase Fisher finished 2-for-2 with a walk.

PW scored a run in the bottom of the first on Gavin Moore’s RBI single then went up 2-0 in the third on a Mason Eagland RBI ground. Abington made it 2-1 in the sixth on Chase Goodson’s RBI single but the Colonials added an insurance run in the sixth as Ryan Moore came home on a wild pitch.

Goodson was 2-for-2 for the Ghosts.

Central Bucks West 5, Central Bucks East 4 >> Home runs by Quinn Illig, Jack Hogenauer and Sam Greer helped Central Bucks West hold a 5-1 lead after three innings and the Bucks held on to snap a two-game skid.

Illig hit a two-run homer in the top of the first. After a Central Bucks East run in the second, Hogenauer led off the third with a home run with Greer connecting on a two-run shot later in the inning.

The Patriots (10-4, 9-2 SOL Colonial) made it 5-3 on solo homers by Chase Harlan and Jaslan Mislan in the sixth. After plating a run in the bottom of the seventh, East had the bases loaded with two outs but Ernie Sanchez got a strikeout to secure West’s victory.

Michael Graban was 2-for-3 with a double and scored twice for the Bucks (6-7, 5-6 SOL Colonial). East’s Mislan went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Softball

Plymouth Whitemarsh 4, Abington 2 >> Plymouth Whitemarsh scored its four runs in the top of third while Madison Moran struck out 10 in a complete-game effort as the Colonials claimed their 11th straight win.

Sam Skivo was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored with Marissa Perez going 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored for PW (13-2, 11-1 SOL Liberty). Moran allowed two earned runs on four hits and two walks.

Caelin Kosvitch’s RBI double gave the Colonials a 1-0 lead. Two batters later, two more runs came home after Skivo’s two-out single. Anna Powel followed with an RBI double.

Samantha Clewell’s two-run home run pulled Abington (4-9, 2-9 SOL Liberty) to within 4-2 in the sixth.

North Penn 15, Pennridge 0 (4) >> Tallie Smink hit a two-run home run in the bottom of third, Liv Stevens went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs and North Penn rolled to its sixth win in a row.

Bella Nunn pitched a four-inning no-hitter with one walk and eight strikeouts while also going 2-for-2 with an RBI for the Knights (14-2, 10-2 SOL Colonial). Casey Sokol was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored while Gianna Cimino had four runs scored.

Hatboro-Horsham 13, Wissahickon 1 >> Hatboro-Horsham’s Alyssa Tooley was 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored and also pitched five scoreless innings, allowing one hit and two walks while striking out nine.

Madison Karpovich went 2-for-3 with three RBIs while Maya Ravi and Adriana DeLeon both were 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored for the Hatters (9-4, 8-3 SOL Liberty). Gianna Salerno was 2-for-2 with an RBI.

Central Bucks South 5, Souderton 2 >> Hollie Schaub was 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored as Central Bucks South scored all five of its runs in the top of the fourth to earn a SOL Colonial win.

Maura Flemming finished 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Titans (9-7, 7-5 division)

Makayla Mihelcic hit an RBI double in both the fourth and sixth for Souderton (8-6, 5-6). Ava Detwiler scored two runs.

Quakertown 11, Upper Dubin 1 (6) >> Ava Beal hit a two-run inside-the park home run in the top of second, Leah Schwalm connected on a solo homer in the sixth and Quakertown kept its perfect record intact with an SOL Liberty win.

Schwalm was 2-for-3 while Kira Jefferson’s two-run triple in the second gave the Panthers (14-0, 12-0 division) a 7-0 lead. Ellie Hilton had a three-run double in the fourth to make it 10-1.

Kyla Garrison went 2-for-2 for Upper Dublin (8-7, 5-7), who scored in the third on a Kaitlyn Zacharia RBI double.

Boys Lacrosse

St. Joseph’s Prep 16, Souderton 6 >> Souderton led 3-2 after the first quarter but St. Joseph’s Prep scored all six goals in the second quarter and went on to win the non-league matchup.

Seth Grossman and Brody Anderson both had two goals and an assist for the Indians (11-4, 7-1 SOL National). John Martin Vince and Jaden Knize each added a goal with Sean Landis, Gavin Landis and Max Ryon all collecting an assist. Souderton goalie Matt Malanga made seven saves.

Boys Track & Field

Souderton 102, Central Bucks West 48 >> Felix Suliveres broke his own Souderton record in the 200 meters with a winning time of 22.16 in the Indians’ dual-meet victory. Suliveres also ran on the Indians’ 4×100 relay with Bryce Solly, Stone McKenna and Lorrell Pagent Thomas that set a school record with a 42.64, the fourth-fastest time in the state this year.

Souderton swept the top three finishes in the javelin, pole vault, long jump, 1,600 meters and 3,200 meters in finishing 4-1 in the SOL Colonial.

Girls Track & Field

Central Bucks West 88, Souderton 62 >> Souderton’s Destini Smith took first place in the high jump with an effort of 5 feet, 5 inches – a mark first in District 1 and third in the state – while also winning the long jump and triple jump as the Indians fell to Central Bucks West in a dual meet.

Kayla Adams-Jones qualified for districts in the shot put with a personal-record throw of 33-6.75. Ava Mills’ 12.38 in the 100-meter dash was the fastest full-automated time in Souderton history while the Indians’ 4×100 relay of Janae Pettaway, Smith, Isiyah McFadden and Mills set a PR with a winning time of 48.95, seventh-best in the state.

Savannah Powlus was first in the 100-meter hurdles and second in the 300-meter hurdles. Carol Ann Descher won the discus with a PR effort of 90 feet and also took first in the javelin. Brooke Wagner placed second in the triple jump with a PR 31-11.25.

Julia Blair and Adams-Jones placed second and third, respectively in the discus. Elizabeth James was second in the javelin while Keira Breon was third.

Autumn Lauer took second in the shot put with a PR 29.1. Ava Cevoli’s PR clearance of 7-6 in the pole vault earned her third with Aubrie Weismantel earning third in the 100 hurdles.

Boys Volleyball

Pennridge 3, Central Bucks East 0 >> Evan Jaolosinksi had 25 assists while Bryce Ammon finished with 14 kills, six aces and three blocks as Pennridge swept Central Bucks East 25-21, 25-21, 25-14 for an SOL American win.

Logan Jalosinski added nine kills, eight digs and three aces for the Rams (12-1, 11-0 conference). Chris Cullen had six kills and three blocks, Aaron Ladd collecting six kills and two blocks with Ethan Vo making eight digs.

Central Bucks South 3, Souderton 0 >> Souderton’s Derek Stefanowicz registered 11 kills and nine digs as the Indians fell in three sets in the SOL American Conference match.

Colton Musselman had seven kills and four digs for the Indians (7-10, 5-6). Everett Self added five kills and nine digs with Gio Iervolineo contributing four kills and three blocks.
